The Chairman of Ijumu local government council, Kogi State, Hon. Taufiq Isa has ordered the arrest and detention of the police officer who shot at and killed a commercial motorcyclist at a check-point along Iyamoye-Ekinrin Adde on Saturday.
Moving swiftly to douse tension as youths from the area and neighbouring Ekiti state mobilize to raze the police division station in the area, the council chairman called for calm.
Arriving the scene of the incident, the LG chairman appealed to the aggrieved youths and road transport workers. He consoled the victim’s family, who hailed from Ekiti state, and assured that justice will be done.
He directed that the trigger happy police officer be detained for proper investigations and prosecution.
The remains of the victim had since been deposited in the mortuary.
