Mr Mohammed Imam, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Kogi, on Monday, said he had donated a Rice Milling Machine worth over N5 million to Osuku, Koton-Karfe Local Government Area in the state.
Imam told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday in Lokoja, that the machine was handed over to “Allah Nagaba Women Association (ANWA)’’ on Sunday.
According to him, the donation is to boost rice production and support the agricultural revolution of the state government.
“The High Tech milling machine is capable of processing as much as 50 to 100 bags of rice per day, which will reduce the stress of traveling several kilometers from Agbudu to Achara and Anga communities to process their rice,’’ he said.
The commissioner also said that a cash donation of N50, 000 was given to the association to encourage the women to actively be involved in farming.
“The new direction of the government led by Alhaji Yahaya Bello is determined and committed to diversifying Kogi economy in order to ameliorate the suffering of the people.
“We want our people to have a sense of belonging and to feel that this present government thinks and cares about their well-being.
“We find this very interesting and we will do more for them,’’ the commissioner said.
Imam said the government had begun to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with investors through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) to harness and boost numerous potential available in tourism sector of the state.
He said: “The Confluence Beach Hotel has been concessioned to a particular investor that has already fulfilled necessary conditions and anytime from now, MoU will be signed to take over the place”.
The commissioner, however, urged the people to appreciate their culture, adding that it teaches the ethos of the value system of the society; provided it was not fetish.
