Even as its achievements far outweigh the challenges confronting the health institution as regards its primary responsibilities to the public, the newly confirmed Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, Dr Tunde Alabi has appealed to philanthropists within and outside the state to financially and otherwise assist the hospital so as to serve the patients better.
The Chief Medical Director, Dr Tunde Alabi, who disclose that there was a crack in the wall of one of the hospital’s wards and other challenges, made the appeal when the executive members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kogi Council paid him a congratulatory visit in the hospital.
Dr Alabi averred that the need for everybody to do his part in service to humanity and put their names on the sand of time could not be over-emphasized, noting that assisting hospitals is a norm in northern Nigeria as government alone cannot do everything for the citizens.
The Medical Director noted that though in the past some philanthropists in the state took up the bills of patients but such largess no longer exits, reiterating that public spirited individuals as well as the state government should complement the effort of the hospital in attending to the needs of the patients.
Speaking further, he disclosed that even as the hospital pays its exorbitant power bill regularly, non regular supply of power has been the greatest challenge confronting the hospital, stressing that patients suffer for it in the night, just as the income generated is largely spent on diesel purchase.
Despite the challenges, Alabi said the hospital has excelled copiously being the largest public hospital in the state working in the last ten months despite industrial crisis in state hospitals, adding that it has about 200 medical doctors, over 100 nurses, trains medical doctors that become consultants and accepts horsemanship as well as has two of its doctors on scholarship abroad.
Earlier, Chairman of NUJ Kogi State Council, Alh Adeiza Momohjimoh who said the visit was to congratulate Dr Alabi on his being confirmed as the substantive  CMD of the hospital, stressed the need for the hospital to tell the world about its services and achievements on its mandate.
He assured that the media would partner the hospital just as he called on the state government to complement the efforts of the hospital and Federal Government so as to serve the patients better.
