A former governorship aspirant in Kogi State, Engr. Olushola George Olumoroti has lampooned the local government administrators and political appointees from Okunland for supporting the Cattle Colony concept of the government.
In a terse response to a press statement by the political appointees, Olumoroti said the people are in full support of the position taken by Okun Development Association (ODA).
“Those appointees and illegal sole administrators doesn’t represent us as they were never voted for by our people, they are only desperate to protect their pot of porridge and would sell their birth right for that. I challenge them to call for a general assembly of Okun people anywhere in Okunland to tell us the rubbish they bandying around and see how angry we are against the nonsense they stand for.
“Most of these people cannot go to their villages without hordes of security operatives and cannot deliver their wards during elections, so they are not to be taking seriously. ODA have spoken the minds of the majority of Okun people and we stand solidly with ODA, equally we are ready to defend our heritage.
“Finally, sooner than expected, these people shall return home and shall be made answerable to all these anti Okun disposition…mark my words”, he said.
ODA, the umbrella association of the Okun people in Kogi state, at a recent stakeholder meeting, has rejected the Cattle Colony proposal, describing it as “repulsive and repugnant to fairness, equity”. But in response, political appointees from Okunland, led by Hon. Taufiq Isa, said ODA’s position is political. Taufiq accused the Okun group for promoting Senator Dino Melaye’s idea.
Adding his voice, Dr. Temidayo Olorundare said only elected representatives and the ODA can speak for Okun people.
“When Igala/Bassa declared unequivocally that they don’t want cattle colony/ranches in their land, no one linked that stance to Senator Dino Melaye. When Barr. Femi Mokikan, the ODA National President, started his consultations from the Acting Chairman, Okun traditional council through all the other Okun leaders and called for a public stakeholders meeting on the same subject to come up with a firm resolution for the people of Okun, I guess Taofiq and the so called government officials in Okun where not in the country.
“So there are no government officials in Kogi East that could resist the genuine position of the people. Why must we sell ourselves for a piece of silver?
“Anyone or group with contrary view of any of government’s policy is anti-GYB or Dino supporter. When the Senator representing Kogi East stood on the floor to reject same policy no eyebrow raised from that area.
“Let me quickly state that none of the appointees in Okun can hold brief for the people as they do not have the mandate of the people to so do. Only the elected representatives and ODA can speak on behalf of the people. Unfortunately, there Assembly members are quiet as usual and the next we will expect is a hasty approval of the House. I hope I can be proved otherwise on this, I hope the Assembly can stand by the people at such a time like this,” he said.
