…Says Kogi will not tolerate any act of insecurity
Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello has hailed the “patriotic zeal of the Nigerian military and Operation Total Freedom for ensuring peace in Kogi State.
Bello, who stated this in a statement through his Director General of Media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, said his administration will continue to give “unflinching support” to all security agencies in order to achieve a “secured, peaceful and economically viable state”.
“My administration’s heavy investment in security is borne out of the uncompromising conviction that peace and security are the bedrocks of social integration and economic prosperity”, insisting that Kogi which used to be the haven of criminals has now been “delivered from the reign of terror of the past”.
According to him, “statistics has shown that we have performed excellently in defending our people against terrorism, kidnap, armed robbery and other criminal vices”, urging residents to continue to fulfill their obligation and patriotic contributions via giving “truthful and correct information about the movement or whereabouts of the criminals”.
“The military has been very gallant in supporting our Operation Total Freedom, a Security apparatus comprising of Officer and men of the Nigeria Police, DSS, NSCDC and other Security agencies in the state. My administration and indeed the people of Kogi State will continue to appreciate the zeal with which they have worked to cleanse our state of criminal elements.
“Let me specially appreciate the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency for helping our state in the area of combating the use of hard drugs.
“Criminologists have linked crimes to hard drugs. If we can destroy their roots, combat them in their hideouts and sustain the tempo, we shall soon begin to hit zero on our crime rate.
“Only yesterday, some bandits hit some villages in Bassa Local Government Area. It would have been all over the media that people were killed. But the military and Operation Total Freedom troops rose to the occasion gallantly to rescue the people. Kogi is a no go area for criminals. I will continue to spare nothing in my bid to protect the people of Kogi State”.
In a related development, the Governor called on politicians in the state to play the game according to its guiding rules, saying his administration will not allow “violent politics” in the build up to the 2019 poll.
His words: “We are gathering a lot of intelligence at the moment. We won’t allow politicians reverse our gains in security of lives and property in Kogi State. We want politics of peace and rules.
“The era of politicians arming the youth to foment troubles during elections is gone. Anyone caught with arm will face the wrath of the law.
“As the Governor of the State, I have shown tremendous example in ensuring we have nothing to do with thugs and vandals. We shall continue to lead by example and will expect others to do same. We do not want the shedding of blood of innocent Kogites in the name of politics”.
