The people of Bassa Local Government Area have been assured of government’s prompt response to the present socio-economic predicament created by the final collapse of Oguma bridge.
The assurance was given when the Chairman of the council, Mal. Maigida Ibrahim, with some illustrious sons of Bassa land in government. Others who allayed the fears of the community include, Hon. Peter Adama Dogwo, Hon. Sunday Shigaba, Hon. Bako Shigaba, Hon. Jacob Edi and Hon. Matifo Precious. They jointly inspected the bridge.
The chairman, Mallam Ibrahim assured the people of the area that Governor Idris Wada would respond to the plight of the people by providing an emergency relief while the plan for a new bridge continues.
The chairman in sympathy with the suffering masses took over the fuelling of all the boats engaged in transporting the people in their hundreds across and over the River Iyimo. He reduced the cost of transportation to N20.00 for civil servants, free for all school children, and N50.00 for others.
He pleaded with the people for understanding in this moment of hardship.
His Royal Highness, the Aguma of Bassa, Chief Williams Jimba Keke also joined other stakeholders to visit the scene and called for quick response by government to bail the land from what he described as “back to stone age”.
He commended the illustrious sons of the land in government for their quick and joint move to salvage the land.
The visiting team described the collapse of Oguma bridge as a set back to the economic, social and political life-wire of the local, state and federal governments.
