The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State chapter has observed the recent increase in vehicular movements on the Federal highways that pass through Kogi State.
This is not unrelated to the diversion of route occasioned by the collapse of the Mokwa-Jebba Bridge in Niger State. Heavy duty vehicles, especially trailers now use the Egbe – Lokoja – Abuja road to link up with the Northern part of the country.
Kogi State is known to be a connecting state that link other states of the Federation, by virtue of that alone, the state witness influx of vehicles (commercial and private) which ply the road on a daily basis to their various destinations. The recent development has contributed significantly to the increased traffic being experienced at the moment.
We appreciate the tireless effort of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in controlling traffic.
While calling on the Federal Government to expedite action in the construction of the proposed alternative (temporary) bridge at Jebba to mitigate the suffering of commuters, We urge all drivers plying the roads in Kogi State to drive safely and observe all the necessary road traffic rules, especially during the festive period.
The life of every kogite, most importantly the youths is very precious to us, and we at the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State chapter we will do our best through advocacy to ensure the safety of all.
We wish you all safe journey to your various destinations.
DRIVE SAFELY.
Signed:
– Abdulkerim Haruna
Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State
