The former deputy Governor of Kogi State, Arc Yomi Awoniyi has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure they sustain present momentum of the party’s cohesion to bring about a credible national chairman at the end of the day.

Awoniyi who spoke with newsmen in Lokoja said he has the feeling that something positive was about happening to the PDP.

“We need a chairman who is fearless, who is untainted and who can really be the face of the new PDP, believe me if we succeed in putting all these in place we are on the rebound because the Nigerian electorate is quite knowledgeable now as they are more discerning as to what governance, leadership and the dividends of democracy should be.”

He said it was very heart warming to note that the PDP is resurging back to live in a very remarkable manner following the victory at the supreme court.

He said a very clear testament was in the enthusiasm people exhibited during the just concluded ward congresses in Kogi State.

“All the leaders from far and wide were all present in their various wards and it was most remarkable not only in my local Government of MopaMoro but the local Governments across the west senatorial district where so many decampees from the APC registered their presence forcefully in our party.

He said the leadership across board decided to accommodate all dwcampees which has has gone a long way to engineering the politics of the senatorial district.

He however lamented on the plight of the people adding that tgeir welfare has really plummeted in the last two years.

“It is amazing when I return home the types of hues and cries I hear from people, it is so worrying. Look there is a very big mismatch between revenue that is available and the expectation of the people.

“But having said this a lot of benefits had accrued to the Government in the recent months and of course it doesn’t seem to be impacting on the lives of the people in a manner that will give them succor, hope and joy.

“I hope the Government of the day would harken to the voices of the people for things to be done.”

He said nothing will give him more joy than for the PDP to get back to power but he said there were still two years.

Awoniyi pointed out the new for every leader be more concerned about the welfare of citizens between now and the next election saying that it is not just about election.

“We must be concerned about how Government, we are ready to offer Government advice so that the people live better. It is so sad but if things don’t improve, I appeal to people to be patient as the PDP is on its way back by the grace of God.
