The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, condemned the detention of Senator Dino Melaye.

The PDP candidate said this in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital while addressing a crowd of supporters at the presidential campaign of the party held at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium.

Atiku described Melaye as one of the most vibrant lawmakers in the country. He demanded his immediate release from incarceration.

The presidential hopeful told the mammoth crowd that the hardship inflicted on the country would be resolved through sincere restructuring to be implemented by the PDP administration at the federal level.

Besides, the former vice president also pledged to redirect the country towards infrastructural development, create jobs and ensure a robust economy.

Atiku also assured the people of the state that the moribund Ajaokuta Steel which was stopped in 1983 during the military regime of President Muhammad Buhari would be revived if given the mandate to govern the country.

According to him, Nigerians in the last almost four years had been made to face hardship occasioned by the incompetence being displayed by the government of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He expressed concern over the alarming rate of unemployment, non-payment of salary and infrastructural decay in Kogi state and Nigeria at large.

He, however, said a PDP controlled government would correct the infrastructural imbalance and the socioeconomic problems facing the country.

“I have been an active player in the  Nigeria economy. I have created multiple employment opportunities for thousands of Nigerians in my private capacity. The revival of this bleeding economy and true federalism through restructuring would be my cardinal objectives” he promised.

The Senate president and Director General Atiku/Obi Presidential Campaign,  Dr Bukola Saraki, urged the people of Kogi state to put an end to APC autocratic system of government by voting massively for all the candidates of the PDP in the general elections.

Saraki noted that events of the last four years had shown that Buhari and his government had no solution to the problems facing Nigeria.

According to him, rather than ameliorating the suffering of the people, the APC government had continued to inflict hardship on them with many anti-people policies and programmes.

A former governor of Kogi State,  Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, stated that the hunger in the last four years should be enough reason to vehemently reject APC government at all levels,  adding the good old days when there was a surplus of food,  prompt payment of salary, security of lives and property would be restored.

The Director-General, Atiku/Obi Campaign Council, Kogi state,  Chief Clarence Olafemi, said all the projects in the state today were initiated and executed by PDP led government, just as he promised that Confluence hotel,  Kogi Hotels and other abandoned projects would be rehabilitated.
