Ata of Igala Backs Civil Service Reform in Kogi

The Ata of Igala, Micheal Idakwo, on Thursday, threw his weight behind the ongoing screening of civil servants and the other efforts of the Kogi State government at sanitising the system.

Besides, the traditional ruler charged the people of the state to embrace peace in order to attract needed investment that would improve the status of the economy of the state  and take it to a greater height.

The royal father said this in his palace in Idah, Idah local government area of the state, when the special adviser to the governor on Local government and chieftaincy affairs, Abubakar Ohere, paid him a condolence visit over the death of the minister of state for Labour and Employment, James Ocholi.

The visit was also to enable the state government inform the monarch about the burial arrangements alredy put in place for the Ocholis.

The Ata Igala said he would give total support to the clean up of the civil service in the state as long as it brings sanity into the system.

Idakwo added that the screening was a step in the right direction as it would enable government to ascertain its workforce and reduce payment of salaries and pensions to imaginary people.

He however noted that the state had no excuse to be poor as it had at least 34 mineral  resources waiting to be tapped, adding that the state would only attract investments if there  is peace in the land.

He charged the people to shun unnecessary bickering that could work against the socio economic development of the state.

The special  adviser had outlined  the programmes of the state  government  under the leadership  of Alhaji Yahaya Bello  to include  civil service reform in which  the state workers are currently  being screened.
