In his statement at a press conference in Abuja today 3rd June, 2013, Hon. Oladele John Nihi who is the Coordinator African Students Affairs Leaders and Parliament (ASALP) warns His Excellency, Captain Idris Wada and his Commissioner for Education to as a matter of urgency stop the ongoing plan to increase Kogi State University, Anyigba School fees from the current fee to more than 200% increment.
It has come to our notice that Kogi State government has concluded arrangements to increase Kogi State University students fees from the current 35,600 for 100level students; 26,600 for 200level students and 15,550 for 300-500levels to 100,000 for indigenous student and 150,000 for non-indigenous students. While proposing 150,000 for indigenous students and 200,000 for non-indigenous students for professional courses like Accounting, Law, etc.
Hon. Oladele warned that they will resist any attempt or attempted attempts to make life unbearable for parents and students in Kogi State through mobilisation of students and youths from all over the country for mass protest in the state.
I wish to make clear here that, we will stop at nothing to resist this evil plan by Kogi State government and the university management board. He said, “Kogi State is a Civil Servants state and funny enough its one of the states that are yet to implement the 18,000 minimum wage approved by the federal government so I wonder where Kogi State government want parents to get this outrageous amount from owing to the fact that kogi state students constitute over 90% of the student population in Kogi State University.
Hon. Oladele is an alumni of Kogi State University, Anyigba where he was the President, Department of Political Science and Pioneer Speaker, Student Union Government SUG
