Yagba East Local Government is one of the twenty one Local Government Areas in Kogi state. It is also an LGA that serves as a gateway to three different local governments namely Ijumu, Yagba West and Mopamuro, all in Kogi state.
It is also iconic that it shares border with Ekiti State and hence the activities of intruders and regular unwanted visitors have been going on unchecked and makes the LGA a crime prone area.
The rate of influx of strange visitors into local government in the last few years is also alarming. Some for business purposes, some for employment purposes while some for ulterior motives.
It is however surprising that people comes into the LGA so easily without the knowledge of even the rural dwellers who are meant to be their hosts.
Prior to the appointment and arrival of Hon Abdulwakil Sule as the Chief Security Officer of the local government, crime rate has been on the low except for some few cases that happened unexpectedly but not as a result of the incompetence of previous council helmsmen.
However, much are still needed to be done to checkmate the influx of strange faces who mostly comes in under the guise of coming to do business or to seek for employment who in most cases ends up being a security threat to the dwellers of the respective towns and villages in the LGA.
Upon the appointment of Hon Abdulwakil Sule, he has been on his toes confronting situations as they come heads on. His proactive and confrontational disposition towards the security of the people of Yagba East has been rated top notch.
Recently, upon receiving intelligence reports about a security situation somewhere in Ogbom where unfortunately two lives were lost and a person injured, he never gave out orders but responded personally by leading a very strong team of security agencies into the flash point, restoring calm in the troubled zone and also ensured there was no further loss of lives.
Those who saw him at the flash point were so baffled about his boldness and swift response and wondered why he couldn’t just sit somewhere comfortable and allow security agencies do their jobs. He told members of the joint task force that he was not appointed to come and be comfortable where people are dying.
His passionate value for human lives has also made him build a very strong working synergy with neighbouring LGA, Yagba West, that shares the same peculiar security situation with Yagba East LGA.
Two days after returning from the centre of the Ogbom Carnage, he went on to meet with relevant Stakeholders on how to restore peace and ensure there was not further break down of law and order and even went ahead to Mull the idea of Profiling all visitors coming into the LGA.
Another scenario was when he had guests in his office and suddenly received a rumoured report about the case of a Coronavirus patient who escaped from an isolation centre in Lagos and came into the LGA, Hon Abdulwakil rather than waving the rumour aside with soft hands left his guests and personally investigated with the help of security agencies and health practitioners to ensure the rumour being passed around was dispelled.
Looking at his steps so far, one can assure that His Excellency can go and sleep with his two eyes closed as far as the security of Yagba East LGA is concerned.
The confidence reposed in his capacity towards handling issues that has to do with the security of lives and properties in the LGA in his short stay in office as been commendable and rated on the high.
