Members of the Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC) Executive Committee on Thursday passed a vote of confidence on the State Chairman, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo and subsequently suspended the Kogi Central Vice Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi from the party.
This resolution was reached at the meeting of the State Executive Committee, SEC, held at Amso Hotel, Abuja.
The display of solidarity was expressed in reaction to the recent petition allegedly written by the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to the APC National secretariat accusing Ametuo of playing anti-party, describing the allegation as “puerile.”
Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting that lasted for more than two and half hours, the Zonal Vice Chairman (East), Hon. Isah Daniel, said a motion of vote of confidence on the state party chairman, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo, was unanimously adopted by the members when it was put to vote.
He said; “ some of us felt it was not necessary because there is nowhere that his  confidence is shaking. But the motion was taken and passed.
“But there was a second leg to that motion which calls for the suspension of Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi, the Zonal Vice Chairman (Central), over an allegation of anti-party activity which was adopted.”
Daniel said the SEC has urged Ametuo to remain steadfast in his fight for the enthronement of ideal democratic culture in Kogi State in spite of the petition against him by Bello.
“We commended him for his dignity, diligence and dedication in carrying out his duties as the chairman of our great party.
Daniel, further explained that, “We are in Abuja to show solidarity with Alhaji Haddy Ametuo and to condemn the actions of Governor Bello.
“Bello should find more constructive things to do for the people of Kogi State.
“He did not mean well for the party. Ametuo is on the right track. He deserves the encouragement of all,” Daniel added.
On the suspension of the Vice Chairman (Central), Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi, the SEC spokesman said, Ahovi had violated the constitution of the party as enshrined in Article 21.
He maintained that Ahovi remained suspended until he absolved himself of the misconduct of anti-party activism he was accused of by some APC members from his ward.
He said the party’s decision to suspend him was taken at the just concluded SEC meeting.
Meanwhile, prior to the SEC meeting, Governor Yahaya Bello had appointed the suspended vice chairman (Central), Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi, as the Kogi State acting chairman of the APC, an appointment political analysts described as unconstitutional.
However, the SEC meeting which was presided over by the Kogi State APC Chairman, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo, has 39 out of 54 executive members in attendance.
