A frontline aspirant for the Kogi East Senatorial ticket under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa, has successfully completed the party’s screening process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The screening exercise, which forms part of the APC’s internal procedures for aspirants seeking elective positions, marks another important milestone in Dr. Mahmoud’s senatorial ambition and further strengthens ongoing political conversations around the future of representation in Kogi East.
Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa, a Political Economy expert, development strategist, and long-standing stakeholder within the APC, has continued to attract growing support from different groups and individuals across Kogi East due to his background in governance, policy advisory, economic development, and national political engagements.

Observers within the political space believe his profile stands out because of his blend of intellectual depth, policy experience, strategic exposure, and relationships across national institutions and influential political networks.
Supporters of the aspirant described the successful screening as another confirmation of his preparedness and readiness to provide effective and development-oriented representation for Kogi East at the National Assembly.
Speaking shortly after the screening exercise, members of his team noted that Kogi East is at a critical stage where the region requires stronger national relevance, strategic engagement, and representation capable of attracting opportunities and giving the district a more influential voice within national conversations.
According to them, Dr. Mahmoud’s aspiration is driven by a commitment to reposition Kogi East politically and economically through purposeful representation, strategic advocacy, and people-focused legislative engagement.
Over the years, Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa has built a strong professional and public service profile across governance and development spaces. He served as Political Economy Adviser to the Federal Ministry of Environment between 2015 and 2017 and also worked as Project Economic Adviser on development initiatives in Kaduna State and the North East Recovery, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (RRR) programme between 2014 and 2017.
He was also a financing member during the 2015 Kogi State gubernatorial election and played active roles within political structures during the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections.
Since the formal declaration of his ambition, several youth groups, professionals, community stakeholders, and political supporters across Kogi East have continued to canvass support for his aspiration, describing him as a candidate whose experience, exposure, and strategic understanding align with the present needs and future aspirations of the region.
With the successful completion of the screening exercise, political attention is expected to shift towards the next phase of the APC senatorial process as consultations and engagements continue across Kogi East.
