After watching my President’s outing yesterday on national television, I was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that none of his numerous supporters have any iota of PATRIOTISM.

If I was a member of APC after last night I would have publicly asked him not to seek re-election even if I was his running mate. I would have gone further to tender an unreserved apology to the entire country for being part of the political process that nominated him. I would have asked my party leaders to prevail on him to retire honourably to save the country from an obviously impending doom.

It is a complete disservice not only to the nation but also to God for any sane person to continue promoting PMB’s candidature after the unmitigated disaster of yesterday’s live interview.

If you have any knowledge of medicine or you have aged relatives in their late eighties or early nineties you would have been alarmed that we may be witnessing clinical signs of early onset of DEMENTIA. Medically, it is not classified as a specific disease but an overall term that describes a group of symptoms. Therefore it is not a condition to be ashamed of though such a fellow should be relieved of any manner of responsibility that puts the lives of people in his or her hands. It is not unusual for most gerontocrats at his age to suffer from dementia which is a natural ageing process of the brain mostly characterized by decline in memory, amnesia (temporary memory loss which we all witnessed last night), persecution syndrome, deep seated distrust of non relatives. Currently there is no known cure but love, care and understanding could ameliorate the debilitating symptoms.

In Law, there is what is called the reasonable man’s standard. PMB supporters should ask themselves is it reasonable to allow a man who obviously is not in control of his intellect to preside over the affairs of a country as big, diverse and complicated as Nigeria.

However, it is obvious that in leadership and politics like-minds gravitate towards each other. The implication of his much touted support could also mean that a vast majority of our country men and women are actually not in control of their senses. That explains why we have a country of organized disorganization. This is what you get when politics is devoid of godliness, patriotism, morality and values.

The interview was amusing to many people including children who have turned our president into a national jest. But the truth is that the situation is not laughable but extremely pathetic. If we truly love our president, like I genuinely do, we should save him from himself.

Now, I understand why Aisha has been wailing that her dear assertive husband is not in control of government. Now I can comprehend the fictional Jubril controversy.

Finally, I appreciate why there is a nepotistic self seeking cabal shielding him. Nevertheless, I am seized by nightmares of how gerotocrats battling with dementia completely ruined the robust economy of a mega power that was Soviet Union with the active connivance of the dreaded and infamous KGB.

I fear for the future of Nigeria. Quo vadis Nigiriana.

Yesterday was the only day I truly regretted my decision to briefly withdraw from active politics of the truly progressive bent.
