We wish to bring to your notice that Okene Secondary School, Okene, which was established in 1944 (78 years now), is in pitiable condition. The school has been abandoned for very long time. We use this medium to seek the attention of Kogi state government towards the rehabilitation of the school.

A healthy learning environment is only possible when it is equiped with adequate leaning facilities and equipments.

Dilapidated structures due to lack of maintenance is one of the reasons students can not cope with studies.

Students are prone to danger in dilapidated classrooms with falling roofs and crack walls with gapping space, which can create room for dangerous reptiles.

The above problems are description of Okene Secondary school. The students have been learning in environment that is unconducive. This is disheartening because, at the end of day, the purposes will not be acchieved.

More also, the staff room and Principal office are nothing to write home about as it is flooded with pool of water. Most of the time, staff sits under trees during the school period.

We are appealing to the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, and other well meaning Kogites to come to our rescue as a matter of urgency, because the condition of this school right now is beyond the reach of the old students who have been helping us.

We shall be grateful if our request considered. We look forward optimistically for this to become a reality. Thanks.

– Hon M.J Salihu
PTA Chairman OSS Okene.
