The Kogi West Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the ‘unconstitutional and opportunistic’ actions of three members of the Party in the State House of Assembly who recently decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (PDP).
This was made known through a communique signed by the zonal chairman, Kola Ojo, after the PDP Kogi West stakeholders meeting held in Kabba on Saturday.
The party pledged to explore all legal and constitutional provisions to challenge the acts of betrayal demonstrated by the lawmakers that decamped; Adewale Omofaye (Ijumu), Kolawole Matthew (Kabba-Bunu) and Jimoh Omiata (Yagba East).
The stakeholders described the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has a party of failure, saying the ruling party has failed Nigerians. The party also urged stakeholders who have waded into the PDP crisis to ensure quick reconciliation so as to restore Nigerians from the APC in 2019.
The communique read apart, “We commended the various steps that are being taken to address areas of disagreement among some members of the Party. These efforts, would help to reposition the Party, based on sound strategies that have been developed to advance the party in the direction of inclusive growth.
“The All Progressive Congress has demonstrated gross incompetence in governance at all levels, particularly in managing the economy. Members are enjoined to position themselves to provide the required alternative to the APC in future elections.”
On state issues, the party expressed embarrassment at the unending screening that remains inconclusive in the state, noting that it was a cruel irony that civil servants whose data were used to secure bailout funds for the state have benefited the least from the proceeds.
They therefore called on the APC led Government in the state to put an immediate end to the agony and the frustration of the affected Civil servants in the State.
They also regretted that the State which used to have good educational reputation has now slid into unenviable pedestal, where tertiary institutions have remained shut for several months arising from poor attention to the Welfare of staff and students, “We request the state Government to reverse this ugly situation, to avoid further destruction to the state’s educational record and legacy.
They also lamented that Government owned media houses has been substituted with undemocratic censorship, leading to the blackout of information concerning PDP on the public media.
“Bad governance has persisted in the state because members of the PDP have been magnanimous in opposition by not projecting the shortcomings of the APC administration as required. Henceforth, sufficient attention would be generated in the media, to call attention of other parts of Nigeria to these failings.
They called on party hierarchy to reward party loyalty and to avoid imposition in future elections, urged its members to remain steadfast and unwavering in their support for the party despite the hostile political environment prevailing in the state.
