Ajanah Assures of ICT-Driven Judiciary

As Information and Communications Technology (ICT) seem to have become the driving force behind the successful operation of human society, the Kogi State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah (CON) has reiterated his passion to launch the operations of the state judiciary into the mainstream of information technology.

The Chief Judge who made this known during the flag-off of the capacity-building training for registrars and secretaries of courts on ICT, in Lokoja recently, disclosed that the state judiciary under his watch would continue to leverage on every strategy that would improve the administration of justice in the state.

He noted that the advent of technology had continually eased man’s management of his activities and environment, being inclined to this reality.

A proactive judiciary must engage in the trend in order to enhance its efficiency in both its internal administrative mechanism and effective in the discharge of its constitutional role of administering justice”, he emphasised.

Justice Ajanah also revealed that the state judiciary already had a functional website where details of information about the judiciary were accessible to the world.

He pointed out that in addition to this initiative; audio recording devices had been installed in the courts aimed at minimising lengthy court proceedings in terms of note taking.

He disclosed that in a short while, the ICT centre which is under construction would be ready for use. The ICT centre, he said, would be equipped with the state- of-the-art ICT training facilities. He charged the participants to utilise the knowledge acquired in the improvement of their services in the various courts where they serve.

Earlier, the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice, Lokoja, Alhaji Yahaya Adamu, noted that the training became imperative in view of the need to build the capacity of the functionaries of the judiciary in the state to enable them perform optimally. He lauded the Chief Judge for his commitment to the development of the state judiciary, especially the new initiative of the introduction of the electronic and online management of case listing.

A cross section of participants at the training expressed their gratitude to the chief judge for giving them the opportunity to be the pioneer beneficiaries of the capacity building training on ICT. They were unanimous that they would reflect the knowledge gained in the discharge of their duties.
