The governor of Kogi state, Captain Idris Wada, has approved the appointment of Prince Idakwo Michael Ameh-Oboni, as the new Atta Igala. He is 63 years old

The appointment has put to rest several months of waiting by the people, after the demise of the former Attah Igala, Alhaji Aliyu Obaje, who died in July 2012

He was the third in his lineage to become the Attah Igala, after his father, the late Ameh Oboni, who died in 1954.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mr. Jacob Edi, he noted that Idakwo’s emergence satisfied all laid down rules.

“For the benefit of doubt, the appointment followed the laid down procedure, according to the Igala Native Law and Customs, as it relates to the selection and appointment of a successor to the throne of Atta Igala,” the statement said.

Prince Idakwo Michael Ameh-Oboni is a retired Deputy Director in the Federal Capital Territory Administration and a former air force officer.
