Lokoja- An NGO, the Dual Care and HIV Prevention Initiative (DCI), in Kogi, has paid the school fees of over 200 orphaned children in collaboration with Treasure Bakery across the state.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Mrs Roseline Alabi, made the donations at the DCI office on Thursday in Lokoja.
According to her, the organisation has over 200 orphans and vulnerable children on scholarships including about 78 children who are living HIV across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“This is another added value that our organisation is doing across the state in partnership with Dr Femi Akande, the Managing Director of Treasure Bakery in Lokoja, and other partners.
“We have our coordinators across the three senatorial districts of the state, so we cannot bring all the children to Lokoja, but we have sent the money to their Care Givers who are honest and credible for payments.
“I am happy today that all the Care Givers are here, but we do not displayed the pictures of our children who are positive to HIV because of stigmatization.
“So, what we are doing today is to pay for the Second Term of the remaining 14 children in Lokoja, who are the last batch of the orphaned students in both public and private primary and secondary schools.
“We are paying N78, 100 today as school fees for the remaining 14 students. We have paid over N300, 000 for the rest of them across the state few weeks ago, courtesy the Treasure Bakery.
“In addition, Moremi Restaurant has been giving us free food for the children. We appreciate all other partners and individuals who have been helping the less privileged through our NGO,” Alabi said.
Alabi specially commended the MD of Treasure Bakery, Dr Femi Akande, for single handedly paying the school fees of over 200 orphaned children, in addition to the regular provisions of food and other items for the children.
She, however appealed to organisations, governments, groups and wealthy individuals in the society to donate generously such as cash, food and other relief items to help alleviate the suffering of vulnerable children.
One of the orphaned students, who spoke on anonymity, commended the NGO for helping them all this while without being tired of the less privileged children.
