The Kogi State chapter of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has commended Governor Usman Ododo on the 35th anniversary of the state’s creation, singling out his administration’s security strategy for high praise.
In a press statement signed by Chapter Chairman. (Alara) Pastor Ben Ayo Abereoran and Secretary, Barrister Anthony Olusegun Ola-Odana, the group felicitated the governor while noting that the protection of lives and property remains the paramount duty of any responsible government. Afenifere lauded the Ododo-led administration for demonstrating capacity, knowledge, and resolve in tackling banditry and terrorism across the state.
Highlighting recent successes, the organization pointed to the rescue of kidnapped victims in Ofu Local Government Area as evidence of a firm stance against criminal elements. According to the group, Kogi State has developed a security architecture that stands out within the North Central region, particularly through effective intelligence gathering and seamless coordination among security agencies, paramilitary bodies, and local communities.
Afenifere further observed a marked improvement in the safety of major transportation routes, including the Lokoja–Abuja and Kabba–Ilorin highways, which serve as vital transit corridors linking the Federal Capital Territory with the Southern and Northern regions of the country. The group noted that travel along these routes was previously plagued by frequent abductions, but has grown significantly safer due to targeted security interventions.
In light of these developments, Afenifere urged governors of neighboring states to understudy Kogi State’s strategic approach to crime prevention. The group reaffirmed its continued support for Governor Ododo as he marks the state’s milestone anniversary and advances his administration’s development goals.
