The Executive Chairman of Adavi local government council, Kogi state, Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami has issued stern warning to custodians and followers of Arijenu and Adebira masquerades.

As the Ekuechi festival draws closer, the council boss warned all the masquerade custodians and their followers to desist from vulgar songs as he vowed to monitor the activities of this year’s traditional festivals and other activities within his domain.

The local government authority restricted the beating of drums, which has been the usual practice before the outing of masquerade, in order to avoid unnecessary issues which is one of the bones of contention between followers of the two masquerades – Arijenu and Adebira – in Kuroko community.

Stakeholders from the two communities who spoke in separate remarks, appreciated the leadership qualities and humility of the council chairman.

They added that there is no doubt his effort will certainly find lasting solutions to the issue threatening the community.

The stakeholders also appealed to Salami to use his office and power as the executive chairman to maintain peace within the community.

“Since the creation of Adavi local government, no executive chairman has ever shown concern towards the progress of the community like your administration has been doing. Therefore, we the lovers of culture and tradition will continue to support your government and promote peace in the community.”

Responding, the Council Boss thanked the stakeholders for their individual contribution in restoring peace in the community.
