Kogi United head coach Tunde Abdulrahman has expressed regrets over his side’s 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Kwara United United in the Matchday Seven of Nigeria National League, NNL on Saturday and has tendered an apology to the supporters and fans of the club.
Kogi United conceded two second half goals against their neighbors from Ilorin in a disappointing manner having lost possessions while attempting to score.
The home side could have be in front in the first half haven created numerous scoring chances through John Jerome, Micheal Bolaji, Wilson Tony and John John but were unluckily missed the targets coupled with Kwara goalkeeper Jonah Usman’s heroic.
Micheal Ohanu tapped in Stephen Alfred’s cross in the 56th minutes after the latter appeared to be in an offside position while receiving the pass.
Kogi United’s free kick specialist, Wilson Tony had one of his numerous set pieces crossing the line in the 79th minutes after beating Jonah Usman in goal but the center referee waived his appeal.
Usman also denied Tony from leveling the scoreline moments afterwards as he dived full length to parry another set piece to corner.
The visitors took the game beyond Kogi United’s reach as scored from another counter attack through Stephen Alfred with five minutes to go.
Coach Abdulrahman who described the defeat as embarrassing said his boys weren’t near their best on Saturday adding that there will be a quick reorientation and refocus from the team ahead of their subsequent fixtures.
“I’m very disappointed; it was my worse game as a manager. We spoke weeks before about never giving up, we need to learn and improve our mentality,” begins the former Wikki Tourists’ coach.
“Firstly I want to apologise to our fans, our supporters, it was a shame what happened today, all criticism were justified concerning the match and I’m really sorry for the loss.
“We had problems in every aspect of the game: offensive; defensive; desire; fight and concentration, its not easy to explain what’s happened. We easily lost confidence.
No team has put two past us at home, it’s even more embarrassing to me because it’s the club I coached last, it’s a shame.
“But we  all know that we cannot accept results like this, the only one way I know to react to this kind of result is with hard work, refocus and raise the morale of the players to step to challenge and adjust quickly,” Abdulrahman said.
Kogi United will next travel to Jos in the next game against Mighy Jets.
