  • Fear of the Unknown: Influx of migrants from Okunran/Okoloke axis to Egbe

Member of House of Representatives for Yagba Federal Constituency, Kogi State, Hon Leke Abejide has condemned last Thursday’s kidnapping of a second class monarch, Oba J.D Ogunyanda, Obalohun of Okoloke in Yagba West Local Council with a call on the federal government for immediate intervention in the growing cases of insecurity in the Okun section of Kogi West Senatorial District.

The Obalohun of Okoloke was abducted by unknown gunmen who invaded his palace before taking him away. Days later, three young men traveling from Okoloke to neighbouring Egbe, were ambushed and brutally killed by suspected bandits. This is as fresh report indicates that residents of Egbe, the commercial nerve centre of Yagba West Local Council have in the past 24 hours witnessed the influx of migrants from Okunran/Okoloke axis, for the fear of the unknown.

Speaking as a guest of Channels television, Sunrise Daily live programme in Abuja on Friday, Abejide said: “As I speak to you one of my traditional rulers, a second class chief is in (kidnappers) custody, Three youths were also killed (almost at the same time), we need the intervention of the Federal Government as the situation is beyond the state government”.

On what the elected leaders from the area are doing to address the situation, he noted: “We, the elected members, are actively addressing the issue of insecurity in Okunland. However, we will not be making our strategy public.”

On Yagba specifically, he assured: “Expect changes in a few days. There are things we are doing underneath, we will not disclose it to the public”.
