As a critical stakeholder in our beloved heritage, Mopa, we as Iloke people have been privileged to contribute some of the most brilliant, courageous and patriotic people to our ancestral union. Our Human Resource grading is top notch and we are grateful to God for that. It is based on this heritage that we abhor crude means of doing things and detest illegalities. That is why we are in court to challenge what we consider as unjust by the Mopa Traditional Council concerning the Elulu stool.
Now to the ongoing pitiable drama at the Mopa Traditional Council where a bizarre pronouncement was made suspending High Chief Michael Ajayi PhD the Ooju Sasu and Olubode of Mopa on contrived and frivolous allegations; it is extremely important for us at Iloke to make our stand known to the entire Mopa people home and Diaspora, that we stand with Adogbe Community based on a Communique signed by them in condemning that barbaric action and demanding its reversal.
We ask ourselves how can Mopa Traditional Council just wake up and pronounce suspension on a man that was nominated by his community and duly coronated by the former King without reporting him to his clan or even issuing queries and warning?
Why are you making attempt to publicly humiliate people that are not on the same page with the crude ideas that you keep churning out from the Council, which you are making a complete mess of already?
Recently you made announcement that the Yeye Oba of Mopa title will be conferred on Dr. Ayoade Arike while the holder of that title is still alive and happen to be the wife of one of the most illustrious Mopa men from Iloke, Late Chief SB Daniyan CON, a former Permanent Secretary and Minister of the Federal Republic, the first Ojomu of Mopa Kingdom. Where else has it ever happened in Yoruba land that a title holder is alive and you give the same title to another person?
As I write this, the Board of Mopa Welfare Society are in court because of the attempt of the Traditional Council to stampede them, violently change the leadership and take over the Society which has been our heritage for several decades. This is simply because the Board made an objective statement about the history of Kingship in Mopa and the current President Chief Samuel Elere refused to dance to the manipulative tune of the Council.
These and so many mind boggling activities from the Council are giving the peace loving people of Mopa great concern and this is why we want the Kogi State government and other relevant bodies/institutions to please be sensitive to the plight of Mopa people as what is going on in Mopa calls for close monitoring before it degenerate to chaos. Since the illegality of May 15 2024 it has been from one crisis to another and we cannot continue like this .
