Yagba West Council Shuts Market Indefinitely, Evict Scavengers

Chairman, Yagba West local government of Kogi State, Tosin Olokun, has ordered the immediate closure of popular Kara Market in Egbe community.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Adeyemi Babarinde Sunday, and made available to newsmen on Saturday, the LG Chairman the closure of Kara Market is indefinite.

He added that all scavengers operating beside the market were directed to vacate the area with immediate effect.

The statement explained that these measures have become necessary as part of ongoing efforts to further rejig the security architecture of Yagba West and ensure the safety of lives and properties within the local government area.

It stated that security agencies have been mandated to enforce compliance and maintain vigilance in the affected areas, adding that any violation of this directive will be met with appropriate legal action.

“The Council, under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon Tosin Olokun, remains committed to taking proactive steps to maintain peace and order,” the statement read.

The LG council urged all stakeholders, including market traders and residents, to cooperate fully with the directive.
