Traditional rulers of Ayegunle Gbede community in Ijumu local government area of Kogi state have directed Fulani herdsmen residing in the community without permission to vacate the town immediately.

This was part of the resolutions reached at the meeting of Ayegunle Gbede Traditional Council of Obas and Chiefs on Thursday.

The meeting chaired by His Royal Highness, Olu of Ayegunle Gbede, Oba Lateef Folorunsho Haruna, reviewed continuous destruction of farmlands, unauthorized occupation of their land without permission or approval from the community, daily encroachment of the land and physical attacks on farmers who have suffered farm destruction in the time past.

To address these challenges, the monarchs resolved that Fulani herdsmen who have been allocated plots of land by their indigenous landlords for rearing animals must comply with the laws of the land, adhere to the agreed terms and conditions, and cease all farming activities on their land by 31st of December, 2024. Alternatively, they must fully address the aforementioned challenges by the same deadline.

Ayegunle Gbede Traditional Council of Obas and Chiefs said they will engage sons and daughters of the community and various security agencies to resolve these challenges going forward.

The meeting was attended by the members of Ayegunle Gbede Traditional Council of Obas and Chiefs, representatives of various security agencies and Fulani herdsmen.
