Association of Medical Lab Scientists Elect New Exco in Kogi, Pledges to Clamp Down on Quacks

Kogi State branch of Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria (AMLSN) have elected Obajemu Samuel as its new chairman.

Obajemu was elected along with eight other executive members of the association in Lokoja on Saturday.

The election, conducted through secret ballot system, was supervised Dr. Robert Ashi, the First National Vice President of AMLSN.

Dr. Ashi commended the outgoing Chairman, Opisa Aminu, and other executive for prioritizing the welfare of members and challenge the new leadership to sustain the good works.

Also elected were: Akubo Andrew, Vice Chairman; John Onuche, Secretary; Victor Olupeka, Assistant Secretary; Mariam Saidu, Treasurer.

Others are: Bolanle Enitan, Financial Secretary; Ahmodu Moses, Publicity Secretary; Oyinbo Daniel, Auditor and Juweratu Musa, Welfare Officer.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Obajemu Samuel, promised that the new leadership of AMLSN in Kogi state will prioritize capacity building for members.

Obajemu pledged that the association will sustain standard practice, clamp down on quackery, and ensure best practices in medical laboratory diagnosis.

“We will build synergy with all health care professionals, build ties with all other organizations, NGOs, NAFDAC, NDLEA and other relevant bodies.

“We will prioritize optimizing the welfare of members in areas like payment of full CONHESS, proper placement, increase in man power,” he said.

The new Chairman of AMLSN said the association will explore areas of competence with strong collaboration with the state government to build a robust economy by production of medical consumables such as antibiotics sensitivity disc, blood group antisera, better and more potent stains.

He appealed to the government to support the proposed move to build a robust economy in the state, ensure health security, enhance innovation and encourage the manufacturing capacity of this high profile professionals.

The 6th Kogi State executive officers will be in office from 2024 till 2027.
