A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state, Otunba Adeniyi Olayemi, has described Governor Yahaya Bello as a transformational leader who has laid a solid foundation for the rapid development of the confluence state.
Speaking with our reporter after the maiden convocation of Kogi State University, Kabba, on Tuesday, Otunba Olayemi said many are still gobsmacked by the accelerated manner in which Governor Bello made good his promises to the people of the state.
He noted that Governor Bello had a penchant for daring to walk the path where others feared to travel.
The Director General, Ododo/Joel campaign council for Kabba-Bunu LGA in the last governorship election in the state stated that the new university is taking shape in record time, owing to Governor Bello’s determination to take Kogi to higher heights.
“Governor Yahaya Bello has etched his name in gold. Out of the blues, he announced the establishment of Kogi State University Kabba and set machineries in motion immediately. He promised that the first set of students will be admitted into the university before the expiration of his tenure and that has just come to pass today with the successful convocation of excited students at the new university.
“The establishment of this new higher institution of learning is coming on the heels of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara. He successfully built two full fledged universities from scratch! This is unprecedented!
“The commitment with which he is investing in these universities and the existing one at Anyigba is commendable, visionary and legendary. He has proved cynics wrong over and over again,” he said.
Otunba Olayemi noted that aside the undeniable fast-tracked development in the education sector, Governor Bello has imprinted his name across the state with enviable legacy projects that will outlive his tenure and lifetime.
He stated that the extra ordinary feat in the health sector leaves no one in doubt about the leadership acumen of Governor Yahaya Bello, adding that his avowed commitment to security of lives and property in the state is yet another milestone that will linger in the memories of residents for a ling time.
“Governor Yahaya Bello’s legacy projects will speak for him for decades, even centuries to come. It is to his credit that Kogi now boast of a flyover bridge. It is to his credit that Kogi boasts of one of the best hospitals in Nigeria. It is to his credit that Kogi became the most secured place to live in Nigeria. It is to his credit that Kogi now boast of having one of the biggest rice mills in Nigeria.
“It is also to his credit that everyone in the state now have a sense of belonging. It is undeniable that his records in women and youth inclusion in governance is unparalleled in the whole country. Under his watch, female appointees in government exceeded the 35% affirmative action, 21 women emerged vice chairman in local government councils across the state. Also women emerged heads of legislative councils in all 21 LGA in the state!,” he added.
Otunba Olayemi urged the Governor-elect, Alhaji Usman Ododo, to emulate his mentor and build on the enduring legacies of Governor Yahaya Bello.
