A former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulmumini Ibrahim, has condemned the Christmas Eve killings in 20 communities in Mangu, Bokkos, Mangu and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

Speaking with our correspondent on Thursday, Abdulmumini called on Federal government of Nigeria to declare a state of emergency on insecurity.

The former lawmaker lamented that the recent killings in Plateau state brings to the fore questions about the capacity of government to protect the citizens.

“Section 14(2) (b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 declares that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government. Are we now saying the Nigerian constitution is hypocritical about the security of lives and property of citizens?

“It is high time we call on all people of conscience to lend their voices against the holocaust that happened in Plateau state.

“The civil society organizations and National Assembly should support the presidency to declare state of emergency on security across the nation,” he said.

Abdulmumini called for humanitarian support for families of victims and survivors of the Plateau attacks.

He tasked government to focus primarily on security and education, adding that well secured nation will thrive on economic and other fronts as investors will embrace the nation’s market.

He appealed to federal government to invest heavily in surveillance technologies and improved manpower.

“During campaigns, President Bola Tinubu promised to recruit more security personnel, now is the time to fulfil that promise.

“Also, I agree with the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, in faulting security agencies for their failure on intelligence gathering as the bandits seems to be a step ahead always.

“I equally toe the Sultan’s school of thought that such killings are devilish and cannot be attributed to Godly religion.

“We must face the hydra headed monster together as a people and the government must realize that now is the time to act by declaring a state of emergency on insecurity,” he said.
