Kogi West 2023: Student Groups Seek Re-election of Senator Smart Adeyemi

Student groups and associations across Kogi West senatorial district have called on the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider Senator Smart Adeyemi for another term in the Senate based on his sterling performance in the 9th Senate.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, the students said it has become imperative for Senator Adeyemi to be reelected because of his unmatched record of legislative excellence.

They said it will be a great advantage to Kogi state if Senator Adeyemi is reelected because of his ranking status, experience and contacts.

The group particularly appeal to the leader of the party in the state, Governor Yahaya Bello to use his good office to influence the party to consider him for a ticket to the Senate again.

The group were represented by one student leader each from the three federal constituency – Usman Mamud Idris for Lokoja/Kogi Federal constituency; Comrade Ajileye Abiodun for Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu and Comrade Agbana Johnson for Yagba Federal constituency, hailed Senator Smart Adeyemi for his N20m bursary award to 1000 students.

They also commended the lawmaker for sponsoring a bill for the upgrade of College of Agriculture Kabba to a full fledge university, bill for the establishment of University of Medical Science Egbe and bill for conversion of Federal Medical Center Lokoja to Federal University of Lokoja Teaching Hospital.

According to them, these bills will promote education and guarantee job security.

In similar vein, the National President of National Association of Okun Students (NAOS), Comrade Adeyemi Babarinde Sunday commended Senator Adeyemi for awarding scholarship to indigent students.

Over 500 students of Kogi West reportedly benefitted from the scholarship scheme.

Comrade Adeyemi described this development as a “rare and unprecedented gesture” towards the students.

“We have no doubt in the humanly and fatherly role Sen. Smart has been showing towards all the students of Kogi West.

“It is on this note that I want to congratulate and appreciate Senator Smart for the successful passage of the bill transforming A.B.U college of Agriculture, Kabba to a full fledged Federal University of Agriculture and also the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Science, Egbe. We are proud of you and equally hope you consolidate on your successes,” he said.
