Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has reiterated his commitment to the development of youths in the state through capacity building, skill acquisition and empowerment programmes.
The Governor made this known when he received the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Lawal Ozomata James, on Tuesday.
Bello applauded Kogi Youth Development Commission’s plan to begin training and empowerment of youths in various agricultural value chains and other vocations.
The governor used the avenue to endorse the innovation of Bidemi Olorukooba, the Youth Entrepreneur on the KYDC Board and the CEO Duketrah Fisheries. assuring of government’s commitment to support more youth programmes.
“Duketrah Fisheries is one of the many products from Kogi State already making waves across the country and more will emerge,” he said.
He promised that very soon more youths, through Kogi Youth Development Commission, in collaboration with government and development partners, will be empowered to begin to make significant contribution to the GDP of the country.
Earlier, Mr Lawal Ozomata James said the essence of the visit is to seek the support of state government in training of Kogi youths on agribusiness, production and value addition.
“There are numerous empowerment and skill acquisition plans, capacity building and life changing programs lined up for Kogi youths,” Lawl said.
He urged youths to continue to be law abiding, stating that the commission is for their advancement.
He added that the innovation by the entrepreneurial expert, Mr Bidemi Olorukooba, is a lofty one which the commission tends to introduce to youths in Kogi State.
“One of the focal points of the Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration is the overall welfare and development of the Kogi State Youth. This is an area he has shone brilliantly, bringing youth to take center stage in governance and also particularly ensuring the establishment of Nigeria’s first Youth Development Commission, whose objectives among others is to empower the youth to stimulate economic growth, create more jobs and economic opportunities and become employers of labour.”
