Some yet-to-be-identified assailants have abducted a bricklayer, Folorunsho Sunday, in Lokoja, Kogi state capital.
Folorunsho, a native of Jege in Yagba East local government area of the state, was attacked in his residence located behind Faith Academy along Zango in the state capital few minutes after 12 midnight on Monday.
A colleague who stays in same house, Lawrence Adeleye, was lucky to escape with serious injuries as the kidnappers attacked him with axe and cutlass.
Lawrence, who hails from Ife-Olukotun, is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Lokoja.
According to sources close to the victims, the abductors have contacted the victim’s family demanding an initial sum of N30million ransom.
After hours of negotiations and revealing the victim’s occupation, the abductors told family members that Folorunsho was not their original target.
“They told us they came to kill a man around Zango but missed him but decided they will not return empty handed, hence, they decided to embark on kidnap for ransom.
“After telling them Folorunsho is just a poor bricklayer who is managing to survive, they gave us till Tuesday to pay N100,000 ransom if we want him released,” a colleague bricklayer told our reporter.
When our reporter called the Police Public Relations officer, DSP WIlliam Ayah, for confirmation, his line was not clear but he promised to get back to him.
