Kogi state government has called on all categories of civil servants in the state especially at the local government areas to strictly adhere to rules of engagement in their respective duties in order to serve the public optimally.
The call was made recently in Lokoja during a two-day training/sensitization programme convened by the state Local Government Service Commission for stakeholders across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Governor Yahaya Bello, who also unveiled the state’s local government service staff regulations, was represented by the Head of Service, Mrs Hannah Onyinoyi Odiyo.
While reiterating that the establishment of Local Government Service Commission across the federation was for effective development of manpower at the grassroots for quality service delivery, he noted that continuous training of staff will improve human capital development, enlightenment for maximum efficiency and creativity.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of Kogi State Local Government Commission, Hon. Adabenege Adams corroborated that the workforce in the state requires explicit rules of engagement in order to forestall chaotic situations in service delivery.
“The workforce in Kogi State public service requires rules of engagement and without the rules and procedure, their conduct with members of the public could be chaotic.
“It is my expectation that adherence to the provision of this regulations shall provide maximum benefits for enhancement of grassroots development by providing correct framework for staff of local government that constitute engine room and catalyst of such development,” he said.
Hon. Adams who revealed that the sensitisation programme was undertaken in collaboration with Equity Promoters and funded by Local Government Training Fund, expressed optimism that any possible disconnect that existed before in service delivery at the grassroots who have been streamlined with the training.
The Local Government Service boss appreciated Kogi State Government under the able leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello for its support in implementing the two-day capacity building programme for stakeholders drawn from the twenty local government areas of the state.
