A civil society organization, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) has condemned the large scale shooting across major streets in Lokoja, Kogi state on Monday.
In a statement signed by its executive director, Idris Miliki Abdul, CHRCR decried the growing pattern of violence in the state.
He called for thorough investigation to unmask the hoodlums that engaged in shooting spree in the state capital on Monday. He demanded that the hoodlums that shot The Sun Newspaper correspondent, Emmanuel Adeyemi, on Monday be apprehended.
“The continued looting of warehouses and the subsequent shooting that charactrisised Lokoja on Monday is commendable in all ramifications. Also, a situation where armed men suspected to be hoodlums moved around the state capital shooting is dangerous to the peaceful coexistence in our society.
“What was the the rational for keeping the materials meant for covid-19 relief and flood victims that have ravage and lives and properties in Kogi state?
“The killings and shooting of Emma Adeyemi, the Sun newspapers correspondent must be investigated and perpetrators brought to book in the interest of justice.
“The Monday, 26th October episode reinforce our calls for urgent and immediate reopening of Federal Medical Center in Lokoja. A situation where such an important medical and one of the best health institution have been closed for three months and the state government is practically doing nothing is wrong, worrisome and condemnable in a civilized society.
“Is it not the people that voted for this government, both state and federal, that are been subjected to ridicule through the continued closure of Federal Medical Center in Lokoja?
“Since the elections of Lokoja /Koto federal constituency, the last year governorship election, the invasion of Federal Medical Center by armed hoodlums, and now shooting of looters in the Lokoja, we have witnessed a pattern of violence that is worrisome and diligent investigation is needed to be carried out by relevant institutions.
“We call on the citizens to stop these unnecessary looting that have pervaded our country in the last few weeks. We call on the state and federal government to entrenched good governance, rule of law and justice for all,” the statement read.
