Kogi state governorship hopeful and former President, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr Omede Idris, has appealed to Muslim faithful in Nigeria to pray for national peace and security and good leadership for Kogi state.

In a message signed by him  to felicitate with the faithful on the commencement of the Holy Month, Omede said he was worried by growing spate of insecurity in the nation and poor governance in his state.

“As much as I share the pain of security challenges rocking many parts of Nigeria, I am as well troubled by the pathetic condition in which my people of Kogi state currently find themselves. It is for this reason that I believe I am rightly positioned me to seek the mantle of leadership of the state through my party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP),” he said.

While calling on the Federal Government to intensify efforts at improving security across the country, Omede urged people of Kogi state to put the agony which economic downturn of the state had brought them behind and call on Allah to restore the fortunes of the state through good leadership.

The immediate past President, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) said the holy month of Ramadan was a unique among months in  the Islamic lunar calendar for faithful.

He added: “The ninth month was the month that the holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to guide the Muslim faithful in their affairs and benefits on earth, and for dividends or otherwise hereafter.

“As year 2019 Ramadan commences, may the virtues and benefits of Ramadan abide with the faithful, through spiritual rejuvenation, continuous dedication to the will of Allah, good deeds and charity activities within the capacity and capabilities of the faithful.

“May the lessons derived from the Ramadan yield good fruits in us  for peace, safety, sincerity and development. As a nation we can do better , if we are united,  exhibit patriotism, abide by our religious principles, guidelines and the rule of law.”
