Against the fall-out of the concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries in Kogi state, the former Deputy Speaker and member representing Omala state constituency, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Akuh has called on all members of the party to embrace forgiveness and peaceful relationship to forge common ground to win the forthcoming general elections.
Akuh who is also a strong contender to occupy Lord Lugard House in 2020 made the call on Wednesday in Anyigba during a critical stakeholders of the party to map out strategies to reconcile members and win the general elections.
The lawmaker stated that the meeting became imperative to review and take stocks of the just concluded PDP House of Assembly primaries to enable them winning the elections.
He noted that as a big house there is bound to be misgivings as result of the primary elections, but urged those who contested to accept the final verdict of the party in good faith
He stated that the party has commenced the process of healing the wounds with immediate constitution of peace and reconciliation committee.
He said the process of reconciling aggrieved members has begun with the meeting of the wards and local government’s EXCOs, advising the people to consider the interest of the party above all personal interests.
He urged members to work assiduously for the success of the party in the forthcoming general elections to reclaim the local government from the ruling party.
According to him: “We may not have been pleased with the turn of events, but the party is supreme. We need to first work for the party to win the general elections. The party has spoken by giving Joel Omaidu the ticket.
“We have an opposition which is the ruling APC and others. We should know that no party is a push over. We are meeting now to respect the will of the party. We are not unmindful of the rights of the aggrieved. We call for forgiveness and to accept the verdict as the will of God. I appealed to us to drop whatever grievances we might have nursed against the party.”
He enjoined the candidate, Joel Omaidu to extend hands of fellowship to all those who contested against him urged him to shun rumours and machinations of the detractors.
In a remark, the former Ambassador to Botswana, Isaac Onuh explained that the present dynamics of power has brought a lot of innovations that may not be palatable to members adding that PDP ‘s decision should be obeyed at all times.
While calling for immediate composition of reconciliation committee urged party stalwarts to not only reconcile members but to extend tentacles to opposition members so as to win the general elections assuring that PDP has not lost any elections in Omala LGA.
