My People First Foundation, founded by a philanthropist, Hajiya Aishat Oyiza Omade, has handed over a fully furnished bungalow to an elderly widow, Mama Mariyamo Audu Azuo, in Inatà Community, Obeiba, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The gesture marks the Foundation’s second fully furnished home handover in under two months, deepening its growing profile as one of the state’s most active grassroots interventionists on behalf of vulnerable women.
The Foundation’s last such gesture came on June 12, 2026, when it handed a furnished four-bedroom bungalow to Mama Salametu Shaibu at Obehira-Uvete in Okene Local Government Area.
“Beyond Building Houses”
Speaking at Saturday’s ceremony, Hajiya Aishat said the interventions were driven by a desire to restore dignity to elderly women who have been left without adequate support.
“Our elderly women deserve to live with dignity,” she said. “For me, this is beyond building houses; it is about giving hope, restoring dignity and letting these women know that they have not been forgotten.”
She added that the Foundation would continue identifying vulnerable women in need of support and assisting them within its available resources.
Dignitaries Turn Out in Force
The newly completed home was commissioned by philanthropist Dr. Sanni Abdullahi Ozomata, PhD, in the presence of the Chairman of the Kogi State Revenue Service and other dignitaries.
The event drew a broad turnout of political, traditional and religious leaders, among them were: Hon. Zakariya Alhassan Otokiti, Member representing Okehi State Constituency, Kogi State House of Assembly; Hon. Isah Dolly, Chairman, Kogi State Sports Commission; Engr. Momoh Ezu, Kogi State APC Chairman; Hon. A.K. Salihu and members of his political family; the Chief Imam of Ihima; Hon. Jumabee, music icon and Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Culture and Tourism; and Hon. Jimoh Otori Otan.
Also present was the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, Hon. Amoka Eneji Monday, who commended the Foundation for consistently taking its humanitarian work to the grassroots. He assured Mama Mariyamo of the council’s continued support in ensuring she lives peacefully and securely within her community.
Guests described the handover as a practical demonstration of compassion, commending Hajiya Aishat for deploying her personal resources and the Foundation’s platform to support widows and elderly women across the state.
Community Rallies With Cash Gift
Beyond the housing gesture, well-wishers at the event raised close to ₦1 million for Mama Mariyamo to help her start a small business and secure an additional source of income — turning the occasion from a simple house handover into a broader show of community support.
In appreciation, Mama Mariyamo’s family presented gifts and an award of recognition to My People First Foundation for its impact on her life. Student representatives from the National Association of Ebira Students (NAES), Federal University Lokoja (FUL), and Federal College of Education, Okene, also joined in commending the Foundation’s continued support for community welfare.
