The Kogi Government on Monday promised to sustain support in terms of relief materials, shelter and healthcare delivery for 2018 flood victims across the state.
Mr Sanusi Yahaya, the State Coordinator of Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), gave the assurance while donating relief items to flood victims at the distribution centre in Mozum District, Bassa Local Government Area.
Yahaya was represented by the Acting Director, Climate Change, Ministry of the Environment, Mrs Dorcas Enehe, who handed over the items to the leaders of the affected communities in Mozum.
He urged the victims to be calm and patient, saying that the intention of both the Federal and State Governments was to compensate them for loss of their property, houses, and farmlands.
According to him, post-flood assessment will be carried out as soon as the floods subside.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Good Governance and Due Processes, Mr Ahmed Adamu, who is an indigene of one of the communities, thanked the state governor for his magnanimity in providing succour and support to his people.
On her part, Mrs Jummai Yusuf, the Acting Director, Administration and Finance, Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), assured victims of other affected communities across Kogi that they would soon be reached.
She said that the flood assessment had already been carried out by both NEMA and SEMA officials, across all the nine affected LGAs of the state.
The traditional ruler, Ohimege of Mozun, Alhaji Kalheed Bukar, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries to Gov. Yahaya Bello for the gesture.
Items donated include bags of rice, beans, Semovita, guinea corn, maize, cartons of Milo, milk, detergents, soap, mattresses, buckets, among others.
