…2019 is the only year Buhari Can Fight Corruption.
Clearly, President Muhammadu Buhari rode on the mantra of anti-corruption into power. The hydra-headed monster, Mr. Corruption, seem to be the most virulent conundrum between Nigeria and nirvana. Many people see Nigeria in utopia only if corruption can be grossly decapitated In the center and roots, while values and integrity installed across board as replacement.
Buhari could have been the best person to suit this narrative in 2015. He was prime for it, unlike other Nigerian seasoned politicians who had hefty allegations of corruption hanging over their necks like Agbalumo, Buhari’s reputation in that slope was faintly positive.
When he took over power, irons of people trailed his support group, unfortunately, they were also people who came from the same Mr. corruption’s abode because no one wins an election in Nigeria without political compromise. He would need to also manage some corruption infested hands in his party and kitchen cabinet, hence, holistic posturing seemed totally impossible. The cry of “selective” fight against corruption which may accuse the Presidency of targeting opposition party members couldn’t be far from his limitation of managing his party members who defected with corruption from their former party. In this case, the wind moved, the bottle didn’t change.
If Buhari had started all out on anyone and everyone in his administration, besides the effect of our economic crash due to his anti-corruption posturing that led to the massive withdrawal of stolen wealth from circulation, a situation whereby seasoned looters started burying funds underground and using proxy names to bear funds in their stead, he would have had a total disaster of too many battles even for his own survival in his political party. The “Cabal” syndrome has tried to hijack his motives various times to secure their “vested” interest of moving the anti-corruption sword towards them.
It is a constant that every political climate comes with the establishment that impose themselves on the system to protect philistinic opportunities.
It seemed like Buhari is the only one fighting corruption while his other cabinet members are paying lip service to the menace. It therefore leads us to the question, can only Buhari be fighting corruption in a nation of over 191m Nigerians?
Can Buhari inexplicably make some decisions without considering his political mileage? Response of the cabal, violence caused by the wicked elements, etc, as a means to fighting back?
How can Buhari constitute a Government from an open tent structure of the APC without appointing members of interests groups whom may also be there to checkmate the interest of the intentions of the President?
These are some of the concerns.
But the game would change in 2019. President Buhari used the last 3 years to crash everything known as the old Nigeria:
1. The Cabalistic hold of the three men gang over Nigeria: One is from the South West, one from the North East and another from the North Central. These ones too have oil wells for many years without interference, while they didn’t also pay any form of compensation to the Nigerian Government. They are the military establishment.
2. Crash of shambolic Economy Which sits on Corruption Funds: Pre 2015 elections, money swam into the nostrils of every cranny of Nigeria, even beggars had money to gift other beggars. It was a democracy of stolen funds being shared like zakat donations. Many businesses also fine tuned their businesses on the lobbying slant of corruption, kickbacks were given for business deals, without recourse to correspondence in quality of services. It was a jamboree in Government contracts. The private sector also swallowed inconsistent funds filing out from politicians whom have stolen wealth without creating duplicative ventures to show the integrity of their funds. The smokescreen was shattered when the economy was allowed to run for six months to test the integrity of the system in place, which led to a total collapse of the faulty foundation it had been laid upon. Thankfully, the painstaking recession has formatted the rascal spending culture of Nigerians, checkmated the fraudulent business ethics of the private sector as only businesses with strong organic legitimacy survived the tsunami. The Economic and Group Recovery Team, ECGRP, has been able to also stabilize the economy by reducing inflation to 13% from recession, while growing the reserves above $40B to stabilize the naira rates as the Nigerian economy is gradually picking up on “real statistics” with integrity of data and appropriate behavior of Nigerians when it comes to use of funds.
3. Restructuring of Existing Political Structure to Favour The Youths: Buhari has made it clear in his part of meandering that his administration would cease the stronghold of gerontology as a system of politics in Nigeria. He fielded the last of his own generation while paving way for a smooth transition of power to the younger generation. It is own record that his closest political allies are the youths. A case exemplar can be found in his romance with Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai and Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello whom have shown not to be perfect but implementing youthful ideological variables in their enclaves.
4. Demobilization of Secessionist Movements: Buhari has been able to keep the country together amidst the rancor and chaos caused by the agitation of Biafran secessionists and constant threat to Nigerian revenue by Niger Delta militants. For one thing, his handling of the crisis has shown alternative route to such kind of agitations which would in the future, if they learn, shouldn’t spiral into civil disobedience that may infer thoughts of national disintegration.
What will happen after Buhari’s victory in 2019?
1. Buhari would have no political mileages or commitment to lose. He can go all out on people with odor of corruption on their breathes and perfume without any threats to his re-election.
2. He can appoint any person or group of persons he chooses and trust as enablers against his anti-corruption war without renegades cabaling the group.
3. He can fire and hire at any time without any region crying foul of persecution.
4. He can probe his own party members as he has nothing to lose on his last tenure
5. He can totally change the political navigation and hand it over to the youths.
6. Buhari would not be held hostage by power blocs and interests in his dream to see a free and reduced corrupt Nigeria, thriving on the ethos of integrity.
