NSCDC Arrests 1,388 in Kogi for Various Crimes

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi State Command, says it arrested no fewer than 1,388 suspects for various crimes in 2017.
The State Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Everestus Obiyo, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja on Friday.
Obiyo said that the suspects were arrested in connection with armed robbery, drug trafficking, rape as well as acts of vandalism against electricity cables and water pipelines.
The commandant disclosed that the command secured 67 convictions after successfully prosecuting some of the cases, while 400 cases involving suspects were still pending in law courts.
Obiyo said that the command also recovered two pistols and bullets from suspects in Adavi and Igalamela- Odolu LGAs, during the period.
He said that the anti-vandal unit of the command also arrested a DAF Truck with registration number AKM 603 used to siphon suspected petroleum  product from vandalised pipeline in in Abaji and Toto, Nasarawa state.
He further explained that Command also destroyed illegal refineries at Ebiya and Achuze-Epiri in Ajaokuta local government area saying that his men arrested four crude oil Trucks at Lokoja axis.
The NSCDC boss said that the command in collaboration with the Department of Petroleum Resources sealed two fuel stations in Lokoja for selling petrol above the N145 official pump price in December.
He stressed that the Command, under his watch, recovered twenty pieces of  telecommunication batteries belonging to GLO at Manyere and 12 Solar panels at Chikara in Kogi LGA.
Obiyo, who listed inadequate operational vehicles, delay in court processes, inadequate vital information from host communities and manpower as the challenges  facing the Command, said that the Command has secured befitting Divisional offices in Ankpa and Lokoja.
