Federal Government through the National Directorate of Employment, (NDE), has trained over 119,172, school leavers, graduates. Women and vulnerable people, in various skill acquisition programmes in 2017, minister of state for Labour and Employment, professor Stephen I. Ocheni has disclosed.
According to him, the training programmes were thread in the intent of the Federal Government to reposition the economy through the introduction of the Social Investment Initiative , which is Pro –Poor and designed to involve people into the growth process.
Ocheni, who spoke at the NDE special day at the closure ceremony of the 38th Edition of Kano International Trade Fair, said that, the initiative has various instruments particularly the government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme which provide opportunity for artisans, youths and market women with skills and empowerment packages.
He said the government strategic plans, on skills acquisition programmes was aimed at bringing broad based growth to promote entrepreneurship for the unemployed youths.
Ocheni stated that, the partnership between, NDE and Kano state government would further enhance wealth and job creation. Adding that, the directorate also played significant role in skills acquisition training in entrepreneurship, vocational, agricultural and public works as catalyst for employment generation.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Director General, National Directorate of Employment, (NDE)Dr Nasiru Mohammed Ladan said that, the directorate has introduced a new scheme called “Green Cash for Nigerian Youths”, which will basically focus on production of dates and palm oil using improved seedlings to boost its mass production.
According to him, “we are also introducing NDE-International(NDE-I)which is yet another initiative under the scheme of the directorate to host a robust website that will collect profile of applicants and job vacancies at home and abroad, as they will serve as a clearing house to link ob seekers with employers within and abroad.
