Monarchs and elders from Kabba has apologised to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello over “regrettable actions of Senator Dino Melaye” during the last Kabba Day celebrations.
During a visit to the Governor on Thursday, Kabba Development Union (KDU) led by Kabba Traditional Council tendered their profound apologies and commended the wisdom of the Governor in dousing tension on said day.
In a letter of appreciation signed by Emmanuel Ajibero, Chairman Kabba Day Planning Committee, the elders thanks Governor Bello for his magnanimity.
“Your presence in Kabba on that day, in spite of various wrong signals hovering in the air, clearly demonstrated to us your love for us in Kabba and indeed and the entire Okun Nation. For this, we remain eternally grateful. We also thank you for your handsome donation of N20,000,000 (Twenty Million Naira) towards the completion of our Ultra Modern Kabba Civic Centre. This magnanimity is unprecedented!
“Your Excellency, as an inherent part of the cultural ethos of the Kabba people, we do not condone any form of disrespect to our Elders and Leaders, more so to our Esteemed Governor. When we observed some unguided tantrums being publicised on Social Media, our Traditional Rulers sent a delegation of three Obas to dissuade some hitherto invited individuals from attending the event and this includes Sen. Dino Melaye.
“For avoidance of doubt, again, on the day of this event, which is a non-political but cultural and fund-raising gathering, our two Ololus in the company of some community Leaders pleaded, particularly with politicians we suspected may have ulterior motives, that they must exhibit perfect decorum before and/or during the Celebration; the request to which we received requisite assurances of guaranteed civility.
“We however regret with profound apologies, the inconveniences and embarrassment that occured on that day, whilst also appreciating your courage and maturity in handling the situation – that could potentially have escalated beyond control. However, lessons have been learnt and these will guide our planning in the course of organising such worthy events in the future,”he said.
Governor Bello, who expressed his happiness to receive the royal fathers and elders noted that apologies and appreciation are not needed as whatever happened during the Kabba Day belonged in the past.
He said the most important thing is how we move on from there for the progress of the State.
