Following the communication of Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to the House of Assembly, seeking another six months extension of local government administrators’ tenure, the lawmakers on Wednesday approved the extension.

This approval marks the second time the administrators’ tenure is extended by six months respectively.
During the Wednesday plenary,  Chairman House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kekere Sani Abdulkareem of Okehi State Constituency supported the extension due to the fact that the State does not have the financial capacity to sponsor local government election.
Others who supported the extension are Abdullahi Bello of Ajaokuta, Sunday Shigaba of Bassa, Linus Ojochenemi Eneche of Olamaboro and others.
John Abah however raised optimism that the election be held after the expiration of this extension, and was also concerned about the recent Constitution Amendment which raised brows on local government autonomy.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. M.O. Kolawole ruled on the deliberation following a unanimous approval of the extension.
