…commends NASS for granting local governments autonomy.
A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, Hon. Aminudeen Ibrahim Ochika has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Minister of Interior, General Abdulrahman Danbazau and Head of Service for the federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita over their roles in the Maina Saga.
It was reported that Abdulrasheed Maina, who embezzled funds during his time with Pension Funds Board was promoted and posted to Ministry of Interior. Dambazua and Oyo-Ita have been accusing each other over the issue.
Though Mr President has taken a bold decision by removing Maina immediately but Hon Ochika in his view asked President Buhari to sack Danbazau and Ita.
He said Nigerians don’t trust the two senior government officials over the issue and they should be removed immediately.
“We can afford to have people like Danbazau and Ita in that offices, let them go and presidency should investigate and prosecute them. While the investigation commence, they should be removed from their respective offices,” he said.
Ochika hailed the National Assembly for passing the bill granting local government councils autonomy and empowering INEC to conduct LG polls.
According to Hon Ochika, he said if implemented, this will be the best thing that has ever happened in the senate of recent.
He lamented that the autonomy issue and SIEC conducting councils polls has been the reason development has not reached rural areas.
He said while autonomy will allow LG bosses to have control over funds and allocations to their councils, INEC conducting council polls will make LG bosses have courage to perform.
According to the APC Chieftain, LG bosses don’t have access to funds accrued to their councils and as such, they found it difficult to initiate tangible projects within their various Local Government Areas.
The state governors has been shortchanging them because the allocation comes through the states.
He said LG bosses have no say in their areas because the governor used SIECs to make sure their loyalists emerge as LG boss.
