Kogi and Enugu state governments have set up a 10-man technical committee, five from each state, to resolve their boundary differences.
The committee which is co-chaired by the two Surveyor General of the states, Surveyor Michael Abolorin of Kogi state and Surveyor Ishiwu Godwin of Enugu, is to look in to the grey areas in the dispute and come to terms, meet and agree on the tripartite point at Ajiogbe or elsewhere for a common presentation to the National Boundary Commission (NBC) and to also meet with Anambra state in order for the parties to agree on the tripartite point.
Speaking immediately after the constitution of the committee, the Deputy Governor of Kogi state Elder Simon Achuba who is also the chairman of Kogi State Boundary Committee, urged the committee to imbibe the spirit of ” give and take ” in their resolution in order to sustain the existing peace and harmony between the two states.
Achuba, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Akor Sylvester, positioned that , where there is understanding, there is hardly dispute, charging the committee to be honest in its findings and resolution.
According to him, if the two states agreed that “Aji ogbe ” is the tripartite point, the resolution of the matter would be else.
He further enjoined the parties involved in the dispute to give room for amicable settlement for the interest of Peace and coexistence, maintaining that ” their is nothing that is forever ” .
In her speech, the Deputy Governor of Enugu state, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo said Kogi and Enugu States have many things in common and have reasons to agree after disagreement.
She assured that the committee would come out with workable and acceptable resolution that would sustain peace and unity between the the two states.
In his supplementary report, the representative of surveyor General of kogi state and the secretary, kogi state boundary committee, Mr John Akagwu said once the grey area is handled well, the committee would achieve the desired result, assuring that the differences would be resolved soon.
Also speaking, the Onu of Ibaji and the chairman, Ibaji Traditional Council, Chief John Egwemi commended the hospitality of the leadership of Enugu state government, saying such gesture was the sign of more good things to come between the two states .
He urged the committee not to allow mischief makers to take control of the activities of the committee, advising the members of the committee to be focused.
In his closing remarks, the secretary to Ibaji Local Government Area, Mr Ben Boyi thanked the committee and advised that there should be no manipulation in the committee’s report for a lasting solution.
