I Hawked Newspaper on the Street to Sponsor my Education – Kogi Assembly Majority Leader

​The Majority Leader in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Honorable Mathew Kolawole, while motivating school students in his Kabba Bunu constituency, recalled how he had to engage in menial jobs including hawking newspapers on the street to sponsor his education.

Kolawole made this known in Kabba today at the closing ceremony of all Kabba/Bunu inter secondary schools quiz and prize giving competition which he sponsored as part of his commitment to improve the standard of education in his constituency.

The lawmaker reiterated his great passion for education considering the fact he was not privileged to be fed with a golden spoon.

“You can see that the road was actually rough for me then,  but I was determined to scale through all hurdles. My students and our future leaders, if I can make it in life, in spite of my disadvantages,  you can also. Education remains the best investment a parent should bestow on a child in order to make him/her self reliant”, he said.

“For this reason, I implore our parents to invest hugely on the education of our children. And you students, especially those of you know that your parents are financially unstable, you can help out by engaging in fruitful ventures that can help ameliorate their situation. Please don’t be caught in the wave of crime, drug taking,  cultism, and other social vices that could be inimical to your health and the society at large,” the lawmaker added.

He rolled out some of his achievements in two years among which are, sinking of seven new borehole in 7 wards,  huge investment in education, sport promotion, and empowerment programme designed to alleviate the sufferings of the indigent people of his constituent.

On empowerment of his constituents, the majority leader noted that by April 2017, 75, youths across the 15 wards in Kabba/bunu would begin demand driven skills with the centre and subsequently empowered with tools a d equipments after their training programme.

As an addendum on the need to promote quality education, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Honourable Sunday Tolorunleke said the government of the day has a great passion for education. According to him, any investment in education cannot be a waste but rather a great plans for the future.

“When we came into power, education was so bastardized. Governor Bello, as we speak, is rolling out some programs that will alleviate the sufferings of parents while training their children in school,” he said.

Dignitaries who graced St. Augustine College Kabba venue for the closing ceremony of all Kabba/Bunu inter secondary schools quiz and prize giving competition 2017 include the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Ahmed Imam, Deputy Speaker Hassan Baiwa Abdullahi, Administrator of Kabba/Bunu local government, Honourable Moses Olorunleke, Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on youths,  students and sport, Honourable M.D Eseyin,  royal fathers amongst others.
