It was a narrow escape for residents and business men at Crusher on Lokoja-Okene highway Wednesday morning as security operatives, in the bid to provide security for Governor Yahaya Bello’s convoy, caused a major accident.
A trailer with plate number Kano AA 45 RAN lost control hit a Honda Accord car including a water tanker.
It was gathered that Governor Bello was heading towards the central part of the State for a government function when the incident occurred.
Eyewitness account revealed that the trailer driver carrying over 50 donkeys from the northern part of the country to the east made an attempt to avert hitting security men, who barricaded the road while the Governor was passing, and ended up colliding with a Honda Accord car.
According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, no life was lost but three people were critically injured and have since been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“It has been a recurring incident, whereby when ever the governor is passing you will see security men blocking major roads in Lokoja”, he said.
“This is not the first time such accident will occurred here as a result of convoys of political office holders trying to stop traffic on the high way.
“The trailer driver lost control because he was on a high speed and never wanted to hit the security men on duty.
“One of the victims, I must tell you, may not survive due to the nature of injuries he sustained during the accident”
At the scene of the accident, our correspondent observed that bodies of lifeless donkeys were found on the road as officers of the Nigeria Police and Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) were on ground to control traffic.
Meanwhile, another eyewitness who simply identified himself as Daniel pleaded with the government officials to respect other road users in the state.
