The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in kogi state has raised alarm over the arrest and detention of political opponents of the ruling party in the state.
The latest victim, Alh.Mohammmed Barga who was picked up in a mosque last Friday for reasons known to the new emperor of the state was arrested by agents of the power that be and hauled in a cell or camp created for the purpose in government house in lokoja.
Democracy guarantees freedom of speech and this is backed up by the 1999 Constitution as amended, but unfortunately, this is no longer the case in kogi state. By every interpretation, kogi state has gone back to the 1933 Hitler Gestapo and this is meant to silence all divergent views.
Caution: Hitler could not sustain “GESTAPO” beyond 1945 and that is history for you. At the appointed time, today will become yesterday.
As a party, we frown at and condemn in totality the harassment and incarceration of our members for no justified reason. If the state has any justified reason for these arrests, let them be charged to court.
Good governance can not breed enmity. The government of the day should concentrate on the welfare of the citizenry by paying civil servants and pensioners their wages instead of harassment and intimidation of innocent citizens all because of party differences.
