The National Coordinator of PDPNYF, Comrade Usman Okai Austin has berated the leadership of National Association of Kogi Students (NAKOSS) and the Student Union Governments (SUG) of various state owned institutions in the state for betraying the generality of Kogi students by aligning with the state government to frustrate their agitations.
Okai made this known in a press release sent to Kogireports.
He decried the ‘sell-out’ style of the student union leadership in the face of obvious lack of interest in the students’ future by the state government. He accused the unionists of frustrating the patriotic efforts by agitating students to take action against the government for continuously keeping them at home over the lingering strike action embarked upon by staff unions.
“This alarm became necessary in view of the obvious romance of the student bodies, whose executives are now placed on monthly allowance of between 100,000 naira to 150,000 naira monthly, with the state government to truncate and frustrate efforts of the staffers of various institutions towards achieving their legitimate demands”, he said.
“It was gathered that the leadership of the students’ bodies are been mobilized to protest against the staff unions in solidarity with the oppressive state government who is not ready to attend to the demands of the striking unions.
“It is worthy to note that the student bodies were observed in various institutions going round their staff both academic and non academic, advising them to abort their strike action as the students are not in their support. This approach negates the tenets of unionism, it is inimical to the progressive agitation for good governance and unacceptable to the purpose of the body”.
Okai advised the students to be vigilant of the action of their union leaders to avoid been sold out as their leaders are fast becoming government stooges.
He said most of these student union leaders, who all in the name of unionism and avarice have pitched tents with the government, have their parents as civil servants and pensioners whose entitlement are been denied in the last 13 months by the government. He expressed surprise at the kind of orientation and attitude the young unionists have which is obviously against the welfare of their parents
He condemned the attitude of Kogi state government whom he alleged has extended its culture of bribery to the young and gullible students.

The coordinator advised Kogi state students union leaders to desist from such act and resist government interference in their activities as that will not augur well for their wellbeing and their ambition in life.

Comrade Okai berated the NAKOSS President, Comrade Shehu Ahmed Seme and all the SUG Presidents in all the state owned tertiary institutions for being accomplices in the unfortunate scenario.
